I wanted to try a new place with the hubs, and this place has been on my radar for a bit. The menu was interesting b/c it had curry soup ramen. Soup curry...the legit stuff from northern Japan...is one of his favorite meals. And we have yet to find it Stateside.
First I want to emphasize that the food here was good. It's not memorable, but I can see why there was a steady stream of customers coming in on a Wednesday evening. The curry soup was warm and filling. I thought it was reasonably priced given that you got a perfectly soft cooked egg, seaweed, beansprout, and enough mussels to fill you up. Noodles were al dente. It wasn't anything close to the traditional soup curry, but good in its own right. Hubs gave it a 7/10. I got the sakura maki (shrimp, avo, smoked salmon, cucumber). A touch heavy on the sauce, but still good. Not rolled with too much rice, which is always a good sign. 7/10. The saba sashimi was good, too. And the pieces were large 7/10. I though both sushi though were a bit overpriced. Most of the menu items were a bit more than I would expect.
The service was really slow. Our ramen came out maybe 20-30min before the sushi, which was odd. There was one waitress for the entire place, so that must have accounted for some of it. The owner's children were there, and would hop up to bus tables as soon as guests left. But yeah, the good food could not make up for the slow service or the overpriced food.
If you're in the area and have lots of time, give it a try. If I had to compare it to the ramen at Yokohama, I would say Sakura's was tastier. Sushi-wise, I'd go elsewhere. -

I remember going to Sukura often when they were opened on Harry and Rock.
We had the Takoyaki as an appetizer and I didn't care for it as much. I wonder if it was undercook because it really cream and runny on the inside and didn't hold a lot of flavor.
We ordered the Kansas roll because its rare that we can get beef in a sushi roll. Just as a remembered, it beef was cooked perfectly. It was a nice crispy sear to it and packed with flavor.
We also order the spider roll and it was so good here. They add an extra coating of crunch to the outside and it gave it a move fun surprise and fun texture.
The service was great though. She constantly refilled my water and when we asked for something, we never had to remind her. It was great. -

This small spot just west of downtown Wichita offers more than just sushi. In fact, it offers more varieties of sushi, maki, and sashimi than most like restaurants...and adds to that entrees, salads, and sides that should help anyone find a dinner to enjoy.
If you enjoy seafood order a Sakura maki roll as a starter. The smoked salmon, avocado, shrimp, smelt roe, and cucumber provide an explosion of textures and flavors.
I could easily have ordered another (6 pieces) but already had chicken teppen-yaki on the way.
The entree is like a Japanese fajita with meat, onions, green bell peppers, mushrooms, and bean sprouts arriving on a steaming plate. The small plate was a perfectly sized complement to the roll.
Give this reasonably priced place a try and let me know what you think. -

This is my go-to when I'm craving ramen. I'm happy there's a place in town that can satisfy my taste buds. The broth is so flavorful. I like how they can make it spicy for you, too. I've had a few of their sushi rolls and they're tasty but I prefer the ramen. The pork belly buns are a must, too! The service is great. Sometimes it can take a bit long to get our food if it's during a busy time but it's understandable since it's a small family-run business.
